I haven't spent as much time as I would like to learn crochet this week but last night I sat down for how long I don't know and tried to do some basic stitches. I found a book at the library which teaches you the basics with pictures and instructions. I kinda got the hang of it but I was losing stitches and it just didn't look right. So I jumped on good old Youtube and searched for tutorials. I found a couple that have been really useful. I now know that I am more a visual/hands on see it in action learner than just reading instructions from a book.
So this here is the start of my granny square. I will have to start again because I feel it's too small and tight but it is starting to resemble some form of crochet instead of a knotted mess! Practice makes perfect.
So here are some links I found to be useful:
Hook and needles: Very clear and helpful videos. Not too fast and very clear.
Crochet geek: A series of video tutorials going through all the basic stitches for beginners
